The WSPCF is delighted to have the
support of South African Rugby legend, Victor Matfield, as his charity of choice during his testimonial year alongside Bakkies Botha in the Blood Brothers Testimonial.
The Blood Brothers Testimonial has been created to recognise and reward Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha for their long- standing service to South African Rugby over their distinguished
The primary aim of the testimonial, over and above celebrating our two top Bok locks, is to raise funds for two truly worthy causes, the WSPCF and the Children’s Hospital Trust, which Victor and Bakkies have designated as their respective charities.
Furthermore, the testimonial provides the players with the opportunity to say thank you to their fans and corporate South Africa for the huge support that they have enjoyed throughout their playing careers.
According to Matfield, finding the right charity to support was a tough challenge: “When Bakkies and I first discussed the opportunity of doing a testimonial year together, I thought long and hard about the charity that I wanted to support.
“I had heard many great things about the Walter Sisulu Foundation and the life-saving heart surgery that it delivers to underprivileged children from all over Africa. What is even more amazing is the 95% success rate that the Foundation has, even when operating on babies only a few weeks old,” he said.
Amongst its patrons are former South African president, Mr. Nelson Mandela, and United Nations Global Messenger of Peace, Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Al-Hussein, the of daughter of King Hussein Bin Talal of Jordan.
We are also now unbelievably thankful that a high profile South African such as Victor is willing to lend his name to our cause, helping us to drive the values of transparency, openness and accountability that we strive for in everything that we do.
We look forward to a wonderful testimonial year celebrating both Victor and Bakkies as two of South Africa’s sporting heroes, and the good that will be coming from the Blood Brothers Testimonial.
Victor says that he will soon come and visit us at the centre, to visit the children and
witness, first-hand, the great work that is done thanks to the dedicated staff at the WSPCF.
