Caring for the carers

clip_image002As part of our efforts to ensure that we’re all on top of our game here at WSPHF headquarters, the ladies of the admin office were hosted at a sponsored timeshare in the beautiful Sabie River Sun to collect their thoughts, take stock of what has happened over the past year and map out the future.

The WSPHF team has now grown substantially, and our highly-productive team of three is even more motivated and passionate than ever.

Leone Prinsloo, a renowned life coach accompanied us to the off-site and gave us a lot of food for throught as we discussed our hopes, challenges, successes, failure and plans for the future. Sandy Seagal from Netcare head office also joined us for the weekend. As the people who are at the coalface and dealing with parents’ expectations, hopes and requests – the work can be emotionally overwhelming.

“The girls all take ownership and responsibility for everything that is said and done at the WSPHF, which is in alignment with values of project of transparency, care, passion, participation, credibility and resilience,” Lynda said.

“I couldn’t think of a better team of people to share an office with and while much of the weekend was dedicated to work, I also hope that they enjoyed a restful time away from the city and retuned fresh and ready to take on the challenges that face us every day!”

About The WSPCF

The Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Foundation (WSPCF) is a philanthropic paediatric cardiac foundation for Africa, focussing on delivering life-saving surgery for underprivileged children with congenital heart disorders from across Africa. It also aims to develop diagnostic and treatment skills amongst Africa’s medical fraternity and conducts critical research into paediatric cardiac healthcare. The cardiac surgery or intervention is undertaken at the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Centre for Africa situated in Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg, , as well as at Cape Town’s Netcare Christian Barnard Memorial and Red Cross Children’s Hospitals. The WSPCF was founded by Dr. Robin Kinsley in 2003, and was established as a living legacy to the late Walter Sisulu and his widow, Albertina, both of whom dedicated their lives to helping children in need.
