Christmas in July with 94.7 Highveld Stereo

picture2At a “Christmas in July” party held at the Netcare Sunninghill Hospital, the WSPCCA honoured the 13 sponsors that fulfilled what has come to be known as the “94.7 Rude Awakening Christmas Wish on Steroids”, which took place on 14th December 2007.

Thanks to 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s Rude Awakening breakfast show and its annual Christmas Wish List, 13 children with congenital heart defects were given a second chance at life as sponsors very generously came together to donate the funds necessary for the corrective surgery to be performed by the doctors at the WSPCCA.

The children (11 from South Africa, one from Nigeria and one from Zimbabwe) were operated on throughout RAW Heart Week (4th – 9th February), during which all 13 kids had their corrective surgery completed.
The sponsors that brought new hope to these children include: 1st For Women Insurance, Emperor’s Palace, Vodacom, Netcare, Coca-Cola Canners, the Carl and Emily Fuchs Foundation, Standard Bank, Southern Sun, Ericsson Networks, Sony Ericsson, SPAR, Virgin Atlantic and an anonymous donor.

A 14th sponsor came to the party – Ampath Laboratories – which ensured that all the medical testing and laboratory work for the 13 kids was covered free of charge.  We also honoured the memory of little Siphiwe Wena, who tragically passed away a month post-operatively.
